The Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation

The Foundation was originally established in 1982 as the Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre Foundation to equip a new regional hospital that would replace the 93 year old Owen Sound General and Marine Hospital. Volunteers mounted a campaign across Grey and Bruce counties, raising over $16 million in cash and pledges for the project!  The Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre opened in 1986.

Since the initial campaign to equip the hospital, the Foundation has raised millions of dollars for medical & diagnostic equipment and renovations.

In 1996, the Foundation established its Caring for Tomorrow Endowment, to provide for the long-term financial security of the hospital. The Foundation also supports education and training for staff directly involved in patient care through a number of initiatives.

The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care provides very little funding to Ontario hospitals for equipment purchases.  Hospitals rely on the generosity of their communities to purchase new and replacement medical equipment, and to support continuing education for our medical professionals.

Early in 2010, the Foundation changed its name to "Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation" because it had been many years since the hospital was officially called the Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre.

Part of Grey Bruce Health Services since 1998, our hospital is now known as the Owen Sound Regional Hospital.
