1. What is the Foundation?

The Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation is a registered charitable foundation established to raise funds on behalf of Grey Bruce Health Services - Owen Sound Regional Hospital.  We provide the hospital with funds for new medical equipment, facility improvements and staff education.

2. Where is the Foundation located and what are its hours of operation?

The Foundation is located on Level 2 (main level) of the hospital, in the center corridor - just east of Central Registration.  Our hours of operation are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.

3. How are funds raised?

Funds are raised through direct mail appeals, major gift solicitations, special events like our annual Charity Golf Classic and curling bonspiel, third-party special events, hospital family activities and more.  Thousands of donations are made each year by individuals, businesses, service clubs and other organizations. Donations come in various forms, for example, in memoriam, in honor, grateful patients, legacy, and estate donations.

4. Does the Foundation decide which projects receive funding?

No, the Foundation does not make these decisions. Each year, the Foundation receives a list of priority medical equipment needs from Grey Bruce Health Services. GBHS conducts a very extensive capital planning process involving physicians, nurse managers, departmental managers and key stakeholders who prioritize equipment needs each year.  The prioritized list is reviewed with the Foundation and projects are chosen from range of departments within the hospital. For descriptions of our current projects, see our urgent needs pages here.

5. I pay taxes - is the work of the Foundation necessary?

The government only provides funding to operate the hospital.  The full cost of new medical equipment has always been the responsibility of the hospital. We strive to provide our specialist physicians, nurses and technologists with the best equipment to diagnose and treat patients.  Medical equipment and technology is constantly changing and improving.

Your donation will help purchase state-of-the-art medical equipment for the Owen Sound Regional Hospital so that staff can deliver the very best care for all of us in Grey and Bruce.

11. Can I donate securities (such as stock or mutual funds) rather than cash?

Yes!  The Federal Government's 2006 budget eliminated the capital gains tax you would normally pay on the profits of selling publicly listed securities, provided you donate these securities directly to a registered charity such as the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation.  You receive a charitable tax receipt for the full market value of the donated shares or securities.
