Mammography Department Receives First New Mammo Unit

The first of two new digital mammography machines needed went into service in July, 2011. Renovations to accomodate the 2nd machine, the 2nd and other equipment are expected to be complete by Spring, 2012. Mammography is a busy, regional service with more than 9,100 women from all over Grey-Bruce undergoing testing in 2010.

New Rehab Equipment

Richard Warkentin, right and his wife Norah, left gave $5,500 to purchase a NuStep recumbant cross trainer for the hospital's Rehab Unit. The couple dedicated their gift to the memory of Sandra Davis. Sandra helped Mr. Warkentin recover from a stroke in 2009. She passed away from Cancer in April, 2010. Making the presentation with the Warkentins were Sandra's husband, John Davis and daughter Jennifer, centre.

New Sleeper Chairs Arrive!

The Women and Childcare Unit purchased 8 ‘sleeper chairs’ with donor support. The chairs allow parents to stay over night with a child that has been hospitalized.

SPECT CT Nuclear Medicine Camera

The focus of the Foundation’s 2008 Christmas Angel campaign, more than $800,000 was raised over a two year period for the camera.  Thousands of gifts were received, including a $200,000 donation from Bruce Power.

The camera entered service at the end of August, 2010.

 

ER/OR Receive Portable Ultrasound Units


ER Physician, Dr. Colin Lackner with a new portable ultrasound unit which arrived at the Hospital in April, 2010.  In the ER, portable ultrasound is used to quickly diagnose internal bleeding, aneurysms and more.  ER physicians were trained on their machine in May.


A second unit was purchased for use in the OR and Critical Care to assist Anaesthesiologists and Internists with IV and catheter placement.

 

Stress Echo Arrives!


Cardiologist, Dr. Khaled Shelig and Electro-Diagnostic Services Charge Technologist Barb Harron with the new Echocardiogram Unit which arrived at the hospital in January, 2010.  The new unit is capable of stress echo and trans-esophogial testing.
