They say life can change in a heartbeat.
I never truly understood this statement – until mine did.

Dear Friend;

On October 29th, 2009 I woke up with persistent chest pains.  I hoped they were caused by heartburn or indigestion.  But when they continued, I figured I might as well stop in at the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Emergency Department on my way to work.

You see, the Owen Sound Regional Hospital is my work.  As the Executive Director of the Foundation, I’ve spent more than a decade helping our Hospital raise the necessary funds to purchase life-saving equipment that is critical to the health of our community.

Only minutes after arriving at the ER, staff had me hooked up to an electrocardiogram (ECG) and were administering a range of tests.

Just moments later, the ECG and other test results showed that I was having a heart attack. Doctors were able to respond right away and give me the emergency treatment I needed to minimize permanent damage to my heart.

Throughout my ordeal, I benefited from equipment purchased with the help of generous donors from throughout our region.  I spent a great deal of time hooked up to cardiac monitors, plus I had numerous ECGs, lab tests and x-rays.

Unfortunately, the ECG machines that were used to help diagnose and monitor my heart attack are quickly approaching the end of their lifespan.  Right now, our Hospital urgently needs more than $120,000 to replace six of those ECG’s with new state-of-the-art machines that are more reliable and will allow us to give patients the best care possible.

I hope you’ll think of my story, consider how life can change in a heartbeat, and send a special gift right away.  Your generosity will help us purchase these new ECG’s and give patients in our community the best chance possible to survive and recover from a heart attack.

As the single most important piece of equipment used to diagnose heart problems, electrocardiograms are crucial.

Because it shows the activity of the heart in real time, the ECG is the very best way to measure and diagnose abnormal heart rhythms.  The ECG can even identify the specific areas where the heart muscle has been damaged, helping our hospital staff provide exact treatments and better care.

The latest ECG machines are digital, allowing test results to be more easily and securely stored and accessed by doctors.

And the need for this state-of-the-art cardiac technology couldn’t be greater.  Heart disease is the number one killer in our community – accounting for 40% of deaths in Grey and Bruce counties.  But with your generous support today, it doesn’t have to be.

To donate, just call the Foundation office at 519-372-3925 between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm You can also make a secure donation through this website by clicking the "donate now" button above.

With your support, we can work together to fight heart disease in our community and ensure we have the latest equipment ready when life changes in a heartbeat.  Please give as generously as you can.

Sincerely,
